Professional Experience: |
Ramsey A. Rayyis has a long professional history of humanitarian work with international agencies, launching his career in 1988 as a teacher for children with disabilities- with the United Nations Relief Works Agency in Palestinian refugee camps, in Northern Jordan and the Gaza Strip. In 1991, he worked with the Red Cross on large-scale relief projects in newly independent Turkmenistan immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union, followed by management of refugee camps during the war in former-Yugoslavia. He has led relief convoys through conflict zones during civil war in the Republic of Georgia, supported emergency health interventions for a cholera outbreak in Uganda, provided assistance to isolated indigenous populations in Russia’s Arctic North, launched orphan support programs in Eastern Siberia, and has also managed various emergency, disaster preparedness and response, and health and social programs in the Middle East, the Caribbean, Southern Caucasus, Central Asia, India, and Turkey.
He is now based in Manila, as Program Coordinator for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, supporting numerous projects and initiatives, including longer-term recovery response to communities devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
Ramsey holds an MBA from Rutgers University- New Jersey (2010), and a BA in Community Studies from the University of California- Santa Cruz (1988).
