Professional Experience:
i started my journalism career as an information officer during my mandatory national youth service at the Directorate for Information and Tourism, Kebbi State in 1995. i later worked as a reporter with the Post Express newspaper between 1996 and 1997. i covered the pro-democracy beat at that time and covered many anti-military protests and walks. i later moved on to the Diet Newspaper as a senior correspondent between 1997 and 1999. Between 1999 and 2000, i worked as an Assitant Editor for the Nigeria-Ghana Newsweek, an offshore publication that focused on business relationship between Ghana and Nigeria. I later worked as a senior correspondent with the Anchor newspaper in Lagos. between 2001 October and September 2009, i worked on the political desk of the Punch Newspaper. I started as a senior correspondent and later promoted as a Chief Correspondent and Assistant Editor. At the Punch, my task include public affairs analysis, headship of the political desk among others. I later joined the Nation newspaper as an Assistant Editor in October 2009 and was assigned to oversee the political desk of the paper. I also served as an analyst to the editorial board of the paper and managed a staff of 8 reporters who covered the national and parliamentary elections. i also covered elections in Germany and United Kingdom, Ghana and Sierra Leone during the period.
i was later appointed a special assistant on Media to the government of Ekiti State, Nigeria in January 2011. barely six months on the assignment, i was appointed as the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor and served on the state's executive council, the highest decision making body in the state. As the official spokesperson for the state, i led a department that boast of over 50 staffs, both journalists, press officers and technicians. The information management of the state improved tremendously under my watch, leading to several awards and recognition. part of my awards and recognistion include 1) Political Reporter of the year, award by Encomium Magazine (2008), i was also named a finalist in the International Press Freedom award by the CJE in 2008. I was also a Fellow of the World Journalism Institute, New York in 2010.
Education:
I had my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Literary Studies from the ondo State university, Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria in 1994. I embraced journalism in 1996 shortly after the completion of my mandatory national youth service which i did at the Directorate for Information and Tourism, in Bebbi State, Northern Nigeria. between 1998 and 2005, I undertook some trainings in Political reporting, conflict reporting organised by the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) in 2003 and the USIS in 2007. I also undertook a course in Basic Economics and Financial Studies at the Lagos Business School, VI, Lagos, Nigeria in February 2005. i later attended the Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) in Schlaining , Austria where i obtained a certificate in the International Peace Building (core course) and specialised in Media Development, February 2008. in 2009, I was at the International Institute for Journalism (IIJ), Berlin, Germany, where i was trained in Political reporting and Policy Investigation. again in 2012, i attended ASPR for another specialised course in Conflict Transformation. i also have a certificate in ICT from VisualTech in 2002.
