Professional Experience:
I am a veteran of continuous project assignments in the developing countries of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa between 1976 and 1999. I worked for Japanese and Middle Eastern consulting firms on projects usually funded by the Japanese Government, providing advice to host governments on ways to address problems of urban infrastructure deterioration, socio-economic disparity, and uneven patterns of urban-rural development. In either the role of Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager, my planning assignments included the production of plans for new towns, desert communities, central regions, and national tourism programs. I have worked as an urban planner, social development strategist, project/program manager, and marketing consultant providing services to professional service firms including architects, engineers, local and national governments, and economic development assistance agencies.
