Area of Expertise:
  • Communications, Media, Knowledge Management, Editor
  • Social, Education, Gender, Youth, Child
Professional Experience:
With almost two decades of journalism experience, I have extensive knowledge of all aspects of the communications field - from observing and asking questions to reporting, editing, production, team leadership, photography, videography and website management. I have covered stories ranging from Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans to food shortages in Haiti and the massive Hayman Wildfire in Colorado, as well as elections, municipal politics, championship sports events and an Elvis Presley impersonator convention (that one was pretty fun).
I am adaptable, versatile, circumspect, think quickly on my feet and am unflappable in a disaster. I am adept at leading a team, can oversee and manage multiple projects from inception to production, work quickly and on deadline and understand the scope of the communications field.
Also, I taught English at a public school in China for almost two years, designing and implementing classroom curriculum, delivering creative and engaging lessons and interfacing with parents and administration.
Education:
Earned Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University (Provo, Utah, USA), majoring in journalism and English.
Earned SIT TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification from Maselle Career College (Flowood, Mississippi, USA).
Received extensive training in news gathering, writing, editing, photography, videography, social media, leadership, public relations, disaster response.
Affiliations and Achievements:
I have won multiple national and state journalism awards, from organizations including the American Association of Sunday and Features Editors, Cox Newspapers, the Florida Press Club, the Colorado Press Club and the Society for Professional Journalists.
I volunteer as an English tutor for Mesa County Libraries, a reading tutor for Mesa County Valley School District 51 and a companion at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home.
