Professional Experience: |
I am a highly motivated and skilled economist with experience working within both the private and public sectors, as well as in a number of developing countries, and am looking for a role which builds upon the specialist knowledge I have acquired during my ten years of employment and higher education. I possess an exemplary academic record having been awarded a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in Economics from Loughborough University and a Distinction in my MSc Economics with reference to the Asia Pacific Region from SOAS, University of London. This is complemented by my broad work experience, which has ranged from working as a Country Risk Analyst on the developing Asia desk at Business Monitor International, as a summer intern at the Department for Transport (both in London), as an Economist at Mekong Economics in Vietnam and as an Economist in the Economic Policy Advisory Service (EPAS) at the Ministry of Finance in Namibia. In addition to this, I have also gained experience working in China and in Cambodia.
During the time I have spent working at the Ministry of Finance in Namibia, I have gained a crucial insight into critical aspects of policy formulation in the developing world. I have played an active role in a number of key public financial management initiatives, and particularly with respect to improving the transparency and accountability of the budget process, including assisting with the national budget; preparing and publishing the Citizens’ Guide to the Budget; developing new budget documents, such as a Mid-Year Review and Pre-Budget Statement; and assisting with the Ministry’s cash and debt management strategy, including improving the Ministry’s cash management model, updating the national debt management strategy and helping to draft the MoA between the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank. I have also been engaged in a number of macroeconomic research and analysis projects, including developing and using the Ministry’s macroeconomic projections model to forecast macroeconomic variables; providing research, analysis, GDP projections and drafting the macroeconomic framework (the Ministry’s annual economic publication which sets out GDP projections and policy recommendations for the budget); and writing the Ministry’s Quarterly Economic Briefs.
This experience of working for an aid recipient has complemented the experience I gained working from the other side of international development as a consultant for aid donors in my role as Economist for Mekong Economics in Vietnam. This job allowed me to gain a wealth of experience in working on development projects, from the initial proposal stage right through to the implementation stage in the field. At Mekong Economics I was responsible for completing a number of business development activities including preparing project methodologies and technical proposals for household and enterprise surveys (as well as for assisting in the preparation of survey instruments for these), recr
