I am professional social worker specialising in child protection, having completed over ten years in the frontline in the UK. Prior to this employment I spent ten years as a humanitarian worker in various roles from a volunteer with VSO to Country Director in two countries.

I am have special interest in all issues of child protection and humanitarian affairs, familiar with the Sphere Project, the document on the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, and IASC cluster groups. I am also a PhD part time student with a British University researching international social work. In addition, I am a member of the International Committee of the British Association of Social Work, and a verified member of Redr, a UK based disaster and relief agency.

In addition to my daily roles within a project I am very interested in research, individually and collectively. My main areas of interest are ‘forced migration’, dialogues and structural development amongst international social workers, and innovation in refugee situations. I also have a broad interest in world affairs, most recently the impact of China on development in Africa.

At my core I am humanitarian child protection social worker, with experience of management at all levels, and interested in child protection in emergencies, as well as development programmes.

I am visiting Kenya from 10th August till around 6th December but this is on a consultancy basis as a lecturer at a University in Nairobi on the subject of social work. This work is flexible and I am looking for a more practitioner role in East Africa, including Somaliland.

I have experience in many areas ranging from security management to project management, assessment, monitoring and evaluation, including experience of working in partnership with other NGO’S and donors.
Education:
I have a Masters degree from University of Liverpool, and I am currently a part-time DPhil candidate in international social work.

I have a key interest in range of research areas including conflict, participatory community development and humanitarian innovation.

My PhD is flexible to allow for full-time work, and I am keen to maintain an interest not only in social work, but politics and social economic development.
