Professional Experience: |
For 26 years I have set up, restructure, and direct development assistance programs for greater, more effective impact and efficient operational implementation of projects in community-based health and nutrition, education, child protection, disaster relief and emergency preparedness, while ensuring program quality and growth in their human development, humanitarian assistance and social welfare programs.
My experience in setting up new and expanding the scope of existing development programs created in me the ability to successfully communicate purpose and vision to staff and external audiences and create high performing senior managerial country program teams. I have demonstrable skills in leading culturally diverse and geographically widespread teams of program and operational staff in governmental and non-governmental organizations. I possess a working knowledge of a range of motivational strategies to ensure strong engagement of the small and large operational and programming teams in program development and results-oriented implementation. My success in leading program growth was in engaging the Save the Children member organizations and a wide range of external donors to take the grant portfolio from $12 million in 2008 to $25 million by 2010 in Mozambique. An example of strategic initiative I took was in co-leading efforts in joint emergency preparedness and response in a consortium I set up with three other iNGOS in Mozambique. The consortium’s success in fulfilling agreed standards in disaster preparedness, mitigation and management demonstrated my ability to encourage forward thinking, new ideas and learning from humanitarian responses. The consortium attracted two $5 million grants for pre-positioning emergency stocks from DFID and over $10 million in funding in three years of flood-related disaster relief efforts in two provinces.
Specific roles in leadership and management I have successfully carried out include: o Setting up, merging and leading country operations and international programs of non-governmental organizations and volunteer agencies, ensuring program quality and growth in their human development, humanitarian assistance and social welfare projects o Overseeing implementation of grant portfolios in a wide range of development sectors: health and nutrition, primary and pre-school education and literacy, community development, food security and child rights, ensuring deliverables comply with donor requirements and meet timelines o Negotiating technical agreements with national, regional, and local governmental institutions and civil society organizations o Mobilizing resources to develop concept papers and grant proposals in targeted opportunities for program development and grant portfolio growth o Coordinating team-based approach to strategic planning and program design o Mentoring and coaching staff of 10-350 employees through organizational mergers
