Affiliations and Achievements:
Present position: I have recently (2010) taken early retirement from the position of National Director of the Second Level Support Service in Ireland. The service had responsibility for teacher professional development at post primary level.

Academic Year 2013: I was employed by UNICEF as a mentor to teacher educators in a Core Primary Teachers’ College (CPTC) in Uganda. My role was to support both pre-service and outreach college tutors and lead the UNICEF sponsored initiative for improvement in the quality of education at primary level in schools within the catchment. The role involved identification, dissemination and promotion of best practice strategies found to be working well in local classrooms.
The role also involved developing support systems for School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) in order to strengthen community involvement and enhance support for schools.
Mentoring of school inspectors at local district level to improve the quality of the inspection system and the outcomes for teachers and schools was also part of the role.

Acedemic Year 2014: I am employed by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) Uganda in the role of Inspection Advisor attached to the Directorate of Education Standards (DES). The role involves the development of improved frameworks for school self-evaluation (SSE), school improvement planning (SIP), leadership of change processes in schools and inspection of schools. The role also includes contributing to the strategic planning processes within the DES organisation.
I have direct responsibility for the coordination of a pilot project funded by Irish Aid to improve outcomes and retention in twenty schools in Moroto and Kotido districts in Karamoja. The project is developing and testing new frameworks for SSE and SIP. The project involves close cooperation with local partners and education stakeholders.
