Country Manager at Mainline Foundation: Dec 2017- Jan 2021
Responsible for Mainlines HIV/AIDS and harm reduction programmes in Kenya and South Africa & Mainlines gender portfolio with an annual budget close to E400.000.
- Spearheaded the instalment of alternative sentencing within the criminal justice system in Mombasa, Kenya, for people who use drugs.
- Developed and rolled-out a gender sensitive approach to harm reduction to improve access to services in Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. This approach is now acknowledged and adopted by the Kenyan government and other funders, including the Global Fund and PEPFAR.
- Geared several research projects addressing meaningfully involving people who use drugs (peer-involvement) in programmes and projects meant for them and gender-based violence resulting in recommendations for NGO's, CSO's and Donors.
- Co-developed a proposal and have been granted funding by PEPFAR (through CDC) to scale-up the peer-involvement and gender sensitive approach throughout South Africa.
- Ensured continuity of Mainlines harm reduction programmes which I have managed, in Kenya and South Africa through other funders- as Mainlines funding through the Dutch Government – Bridging the Gaps Programme (2011-2020) concluded. I have ensured the Kenyan programme being absorbed through the Global Fund and the South African programme through PEPFAR and Global Fund.
