Professional Experience: |
Beginning my career with Teach for India was a pivotal point for me, confirming the desire to meaningfully work within education development. Following my experience as a Teach for India Fellow (2010-2012), I have refined and developed my skills in strategy project work, complimenting them with a theoretical appreciation of education during the Masters degree I am pursuing. Through my experiences and choices, I have developed an ability to work strategically to maximize impact, moving effectively between considerations of the ground reality and broader, strategic direction.
Working on the Strategy and Change team at the national Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) of Canada required a successfully accelerated learning curve in order to meet the challenges of a small team in a large organization. I worked and led in several capacities on intense deadline-driven projects of varied size, scale and content across the country; from project management, content creation, budget analyses and recommendations, to implementation and evaluation. As an internal strategy team, it was key to ensure quality, sensitivity and change management when implementing new processes. Primarily delivering solutions to facilitate board level decision-making further meant great accountability to both top-level management as well as teams across departments and provinces. Further, the experience of working on a small team with great responsibility required constant management (both upwards and lateral) of people, projects and teams across organizational functions.
Passionate about and committed to education, I have sought out experiences that allow me to contribute my skills in any capacity I can, alongside both my work at HSF and my Masters. This has ranged from consulting to mentoring teachers and volunteering at local schools. Most recently, I mentored at a school in London and worked with the Initial Teacher Development Team at Teach First. As strategy skills are both transferable and widely applicable, I consulted with the team to optimize the management of their 150+ individual-wide university partnership.
The range of my experiences, from teaching and understanding the reality of the classroom at TFI, to working at a broader strategic level, have prepared me well to take on diverse challenges. Having lived and worked in seven cities spanning Asia, North America and Europe has instilled both an open-mindedness and a habit of maximizing opportunities; whether through volunteering with local communities, through professional commitments or personal hobbies and interests.
