Area of Expertise:
  • Health, Doctors, Nurses, HIV/AIDS
Professional Experience:
I am a registered Pharmacist with over 9 years’ experience in providing pharmaceutical care in Kenya both at service delivery and management level. I have also provided services as a health supply chain improvement specialist, supporting government health facilities in Kenya to improve supply chain management practices for more efficient service delivery. I have 7 years’ experience in program implementation, particularly in the area of HIV/AIDS programming. As the Senior Technical Advisor of a USAID funded program, APHIAplus IMARISHA, I provide strategic direction in program implementation with respect to HIV/AIDS, TB/HIV co-management, Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health, Laboratory strengthening, Health Commodities Supply Chain Management and continuous quality improvement.

I have supply chain management experience having worked the Health Supply Chain Improvement Specialist for the APHIAplus IMARISHA. I have devised innovative ways to improve supply chain efficiency and responsiveness in difficult to reach areas in Kenya by working through the County Health Management Teams and employing selected task shifting and task sharing approaches in Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Garissa, Turkana and Tana River Counties. Additionally, I have triggered the setting up of four County Commodity Security Committees and through them introduced active quality improvement measures in the counties’ health supply chains in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

I have worked in the Kenyan public health sector both at service delivery and management level. I worked in HIV programming as the Provincial ART Officer (PARTO) in the former Coast Province leading a team of thirteen District AIDs and STI coordinators (DASCOs) and District Pharmaceutical facilitators (DPFs) to ensure improved quality of care for people living with HIV in the established Comprehensive Care Centers (CCCs) in the province. At service delivery level, I provided pharmaceutical care both within the HIV program and general patient care having worked in Coast Province General Hospital as a hospital pharmacist for five years.

I am competent in training (using innovative teaching methodologies with emphasis on adult learning techniques) and mentoring healthcare workers on various aspects of healthcare including pharmaceutical care, malaria, commodity management and continuous quality improvement. Participating in development of the national harmonized HIV curriculum accorded me curriculum development skills and experience. This curriculum adopts a competency based, student centered approach as opposed to the traditional classroom based training. The Kenyan ministry of health launched the curriculum in 2013 and it is in use for healthcare worker training. I am able to develop a curriculum, plan and execute training of health care workers to transfer knowledge and improve skills and competency.

I am able to employ continuous quality improvement approaches to improve health servi
