Professional Experience:
I have spent over eight years working in different capacities as an administrator, academic, analyst, banker, consultant and, researcher. I am currently on a consultancy as a concept writer for the Africa Peace and Security Programme - a joint initiative of the African Union and the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. I am designing a new research and funding proposal for the APSP.When, completed, the proposal will bring a fresh insight into the APSP’s attempt at invoking the idea of Africa centred solutions to peace and security issues on the continent. I worked as a consultant with the United Kingdom’s Office of National Statistics during the 2011 national census. I was part of the team that worked on the adaptation of the methodology used in assessing census return rate to suit the religion, racial and cultural demands of the country most especially in the Bradford District Area. My work as a Research Analyst at the University of Leeds also focused on peace, security and development most especially in relation to the bitumen belt of Nigeria. Between 2003 and 2004, I was a researcher at the Centre for Democracy and Development, London. In that position, I had the opportunity to coordinate the centre’s work on environmental security and its ramification on poverty in West Africa. My work experience also included stints in the private sector where I worked in the business advisory firm of Messrs Okunoye, Adeniyi & Co, Lagos – Nigeria, as a Business Analyst specializing in political risks. I was saddled with the responsibility of setting up of the political risk desk of the firm, and superintending over its growth for the duration of my stay. I also worked closely with clients in analyzing and prescribing solutions to the political risks that affect their activities. Prior to taking up appointment as a political risk analyst, I was a management trainee with First Bank PLC, one of the largest banks in Nigeria. I have also worked as a teaching fellow at the Leeds University Centre for African Studies (LUCAS) where I took modules on Africa’s development. I also worked at the Trade Injustice and Debt Action Leeds (TIDAL). I conducted an assessment of the organization’s strategic approach with the aim of identifying the gaps in service delivery. As such, I designed a training manual used for speakers under TIDAL; and also worked on the methodology for research and data collation.
Education:
I hold a Ph.D.in Politics and International Studies from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. I also hold an undergraduate degree in International Relations from the Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria; as well as postgraduate degrees in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Lagos - Nigeria, and University of Amsterdam - The Netherlands respectively. Through my studies, I have developed a deep immersion for international development issues. I have also developed advanced research and analytical skills which are vital to international development jobs.
