Conduct research, provide technical assistance and public health practice and consultancy on HIV care, treatment and prevention and maternal and child health. Research interests in access to care and impact of worldwide rollout of ART on patient outcomes and risk behaviors. Current projects in Ethiopia (JHU TSEHAI) and Bangladesh (PROJAHNMO), previous projects in Thailand (HPTN). Upcoming work with JHU CCP in Swaziland, flagship USAID RMNCH project. Previously developed QI plan for JHU HIV/AIDS clinic in Baltimore. Previously, Project Director, “Improving Care for Mothers and Babies,” USAID Health Care Improvement Project, University Research Co., LLC , Moscow, Russia. Developed, directed $4 million TA project to reduce maternal and child mortality, disability and morbidity, abortions and child abandonment in six Russian regions, while promoting the adoption of QI methodology. Partnered with American Academy of Pediatrics. Introduction of “warm chain” for neonates reduced hypothermia by 80%. Improvement of management of labor using the partograph led to 43% reduction in the risk of neonatal asphyxia and hypoxia. Previous work coordinating clinical research for Johns Hopkins/Thailand, developing QI programs for the Thai MOPH-US CDC Collaboration, teaching health policy at Georgetown University; supervising $6 million USAID social sector and health care reform TA program in Kiev, Ukraine, and program design and policy work on QI, utilization review and computerized medical information for the (former) Health Care Financing Administration, including serving on Clinton Health Reform Task Force Workgroup on Quality. Excellent writing skills; 5 years journalism experience.
