Professional Experience: |
I have experience in the analysis of tax reforms and public policies in an academic and non-academic context, since I have been a consultant for the International Labour Organization, and an intern at the German Bank of Development in parallel of my doctoral studies. I collaborated with these institutions, their implementation partners, and their political intermediaries to implement development programs, and evaluate their impact in a cost-efficient manner. In the case of the German Bank of Development, I have also supported them in understanding the content and implications of contemporary fiscal reforms on their activities in India.
My experience as a consultant in Morocco for the International Labour Organization, and in India for the German Bank of Development, further deepened my taste for working in a challenging and enriching international environment within multi-disciplinary teams.

Education: |
I am a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of Mannheim. I expect to complete my thesis in July 2016. My main research interests are in the fields of Development Economics, Public Economics, and Applied Econometrics. In my latest research project, I study the impact of the replacement of a distorting sales tax by a value-added tax in India on production, investments, and tax compliance using a large representative survey of informal and formal Indian firms. I empirically disentangle two different aspects of the reform: the increase in tax enforcement caused by the intrinsic properties of the value-added tax credit and refund system, and the increase in production efficiency caused by the removal of distortions present under the prior tax system. My results help understanding cross-countries differences in the success of value-added tax reforms in developing countries.
During my doctoral studies, I have participated to several international conferences whose programs either addressed a broad audience of economists or targeted specialists in the field of tax compliance or international trade, and also gained extensive teaching experience. I am thus confident in discussing research ideas and sophisticated issues with people from a large range of background.
