Professional Experience: |
Since 2007 I have run the east and central Africa newsroom for IRIN, the world's leading source of humanitarian news and analysis, operating out of UNOCHA. I am in charge of all aspects of production, from planning and commissioning to pre-publication quality control. I frequently stand in for the editor-in-chief. I have travelled extensively in the region (also when in a previous Nairobi-based post as a reporter with AFP.)
I also work closely with IRIN's film department and have produced several documentaries and worked on major multimedia projects.
I "exceeded expectations" according to my latest performance evaluation.
Before joining IRIN I spent 12 years with Agence France-Presse, with postings in Abidjan, Nairobi and Paris, where I ultimately served as the deputy head of AFP TV. When based in Africa, I worked as a reporter and also as an editor and translator (from French to English).
Earlier in my career I served as foreign editor of an English language daily in Geneva, and as the jewellery editor of an international trade magazine.
