Professional Experience:

Develop and manage strategies for grants portfolio for assigned African countries based on political developments. Assess grant proposals for Board approval. Monitor and provide programmatic advice and compliance assistance to existing grantees. Travel to the region on a regular basis to identify and work with existing and potential partners. Track political and third sector developments in the region. Develop and manage programmatic and grants budgets. Support and mentor junior staff. Maintain contacts with organizations and individuals working on the region.

Direct NED’s more than $4.5 million programmatic and small grants portfolio for nongovernmental groups in Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan to expand access to independent information, promote transparency, tackle corruption, protect human rights, increase women’s and minority rights and political participation and address conflicts
? Established and chair the Ethiopia working group to coordinate increased U.S. donor assistance to support Ethiopia’s democratic transformation
