Professional Experience:

Over the past 25 years, I have worked as a maternal/child and reproductive health technical expert with the World Bank, USAID, UNICEF, and UNFPA, as well as with international agencies such as Family Care International, Save The Children, John Snow Inc., the Population Council and Population Services International (PSI).

My areas of expertise are in the design, implementation and evaluation of hospital and community-based interventions for maternal and newborn health. I have worked with Ministries of Health (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tanzania) at district, provincial and national levels on health systems strengthening activities (health provider training, clinic and hospital renovation, supply chain and commodities, health information, capacity-building for district management teams). I have also worked with multi-lateral (UNICEF, UNFPA bilateral (USAID) and international agencies and local partners on community-based behavior change communication and social mobilization in the public and private sector. I have also worked on large, complex impact evaluations of country-wide MNCH programs in Sub-Saharan Africa for USAID.

I am deeply committed to improving the access and quality of health services for women and children and I have the expertise to help support governmental and non-governmental agencies on developing and monitoring evidence-based and research-driven strategies.

• Served as Team Leader for the USAID/Global Health Technical Assistance Project (GH TECH)
o Study on Integration of Reproductive and Child Health Services for Tanzanian Ministry of Heath and Social Welfare, Dar-es-Salaam (Sept 2012 January 2013)
o Mid-Term Evaluation of USAID’s $40 million Mothers and Infants Healthy Safe and Alive (MAISHA) Project in Tanzania (September-December 2011)
• Served as a World Bank team member for the UN H4 (World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA) core technical work on “Accelerating Progress to Meet MDG5 (Dec 2008 - August 2010)
• Served as Technical Consultant for World Bank’s Health Population, Nutrition (HNP) Unit, conducting analytical study on World Bank support to Population and Reproductive Health in 35 high fertility countries (June 2008-August 2010)
• Served as USAID’s Deputy Chief of Party and Senior Technical Advisor for the $100 million Pakistan Initiative for Mothers and Newborns (PAIMAN) Project, a maternal and newborn mortality reduction project, in Pakistan. (2006-2008)
• Worked for fifteen years in the following areas of Maternal, Newborn and Child Health programming and research in Pakistan: development of baseline hospital and community-based surveys, development of training curriculum for health professionals; development of monitoring and evaluation tools for MNCH; development of small grants programs for MNCH; development of communication strategy for maternal health
