CAREER OVERVIEW For over two decades I have worked across diverse landscapes and cultures to help people achieve environmental, social and economic progress. I have been closely involved with Indigenous people on Cape York over the last decade as they strive to transform their lives. I have more than five years public sector experience and international development experience in the Pacific Islands. I include capacity building and enabling others with information, skills and confidence to act as being among my key qualities.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS/ATTRIBUTES
Leadership/Management Leadership style: I am a natural collaborator, so my primary style is a ‘Promoter/Supporter’, but when needed I am also a confident ‘Driver’. As Chief Operating Officer for APN Cape York I successfully led this important Wik organisation through a phase of strong growth and improved governance. I managed this organisation when it had 50 staff working under four middle managers who were my direct reports. I continue to play a leading management role at Cape York Partnership, where I have led the development and rollout of a high profile national initiative, Empowered Communities, in Cape York over two years.
Business Development I am good at building initiatives, networks and relationships to grow projects. For example, in one key role I leveraged $28 million over four years for the Caring for Country Strategy from an initial investment of $130,000.
Project Development and Execution I have played a leading role in more than 30 projects, including large multi-million dollar, multi-year complex projects, funded through a range of government and philanthropic grants. These have all successfully delivered outcomes and maintained compliance with contractual obligations.
User focused and participatory policy development and analysis I have led the adaption of the Empowered Communities reforms to the Cape York context with Indigenous people. I have managed diverse input to develop regulatory Coastal Management Plans under the Queensland’s Coastal Management and Protection Act, 2000. I have built capacity for Joint Management of National Parks under the Cape York Peninsula Heritage Act, 2005. I have facilitated the development of key strategies in Cape York from an traditional owner perspective such as the Turtle and Dugong Strategy, the Cape York Open for Business Strategy 2014.
