Professional Experience:
For over a decade May has been working to shift our understanding of critical issues and to address inequality.
She has worked for or advised government, civil society, and universities.

She most recently established and led Oxfam Australia's Research Unit for four years. In that time, she generated over $5 million in research funding and significantly increased the quality, focus, and impact of the organization's research work. She brokered and governed significant partnerships with over ten universities including collaborative research on climate change in Bangladesh, health policy in South Africa, community accountability in Cambodia, corporate accountability in India and Indonesia and economic resilience in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. She was an Adjunct Associate at Monash University and RMIT University and a frequent guest lecturer at many others. In 2009-2010 she led Oxfam International’s research that uncovered the economic and social impact of the Global Economic Crisis in poorer communities across the globe. As an Adjunct Associate at RMIT she designed qualitative methods to investigate vulnerability and resilience to global economic shocks in Melanesia, trained local research teams, analysed large data-sets to generate results, and produced policy briefs, book chapters and other publications.

May coordinated Oxfam International's flagship global youth program, supporting a network of community organizers and activists in over 90 countries.

In her community work, May co-convened a campaign that saw the Australian Government remove over 100 pieces of discriminatory legislation against the LBGTI community and campaigned for refugee rights and native title for a number of years.

She excels at lobbying decision-makers, collaborating with academics, strategizing with civil society organizations, producing sharp analysis, and engaging people in action-oriented and participatory research.
