Professional Experience:
I have thirty years teaching experience, largely to adolescents, but also to adults and children. I also have extensive experience of presenting successfully to large conference audiences.

I have extensive experience of delivering innovative workshops to a wide range of audiences. These include creating mobile apps to teenagers, using Excel for librarians and E-safety issues to teachers and parents. Feedback from participants always shows my training is well planned, interactive , informative, varied and well-paced.

I have taught in Kenya, Sudan and Japan, and have led a teachers’ professional development visit to Nigeria. I have worked closely with the British Council in Kenya, Nigeria and in the UK, for whom I have successfully bid for three Global Curriculum Development projects.

Until September 2012 I was an Assistant Headteacher at Central Foundation Girls’ School (CFGS) where I was responsible for Work related learning and International and Parental links, amongst other areas. I set up and managed mentoring schemes with city businesses. This involved convincing employers to sign up, training their volunteers, recruiting mentees and explaining the project to them and their parents. I managed the operational delivery and evaluated the overall project which led to greater engagement and achievement of the students. I also set up and delivered successful courses and events for parents, as well as chairing the Parents’ Forum.

I convinced the charity Apps for Good to run their first project in my school, which was featured widely, including on Blue Peter. This also led to David Willets launching Tech City at CFGS in September 2011.

I set up my charity, Muthurwa Foundation in 2006 to support education in a slum school in Nairobi. Since then I have successfully fundraised to fund a computer room and irrigation system for their school garden and taught at the school during my holiday each year since.

I am also a founder of a social enterprise to facilitate recycling of heart pacemakers, Pace4Life. This was set up at Google StartUp Weekend in March 2012. The pitch I did for them was judged to be the most effective and achieved Highly Commended status.

In my previous role I designed and oversaw our website and media coverage, edited the school magazine and regularly wrote reports for the, national and international press. I have successfully submitted bids to the British Council and to the E-learning Foundation for £30K for a laptop project. As Computer Science portal manager for VITAL (part of the Open University) I created online content including top tips for teachers, resource reviews, training videos and hosted regular webinars with industry experts, as well as undertaking research.

I have extensive experience in leading and managing a wide variety of teams and in writing and evaluating strategic action plans. I have also successfully managed annual budgets of up to £250,000. I have written successful b
