Professional Experience:
Worked in health care settings (primary health care and CSOs) in developing countries over 14 years in Sub Saharan Africa. Widely worked nationally and regionally on RH and MNH issues. Authored research, strategy papers, articles and policy briefs on a range of HIV and reproductive health - maternal and new-born health issues including presentation of results at international conferences .Established new-born care units and high dependency units in university hospitals and district hospitals in Ethiopia. Monitored the quality of maternal health care and capacity building initiatives through appropriate BeMONC and CeMONC indicators in Ethiopia from 2009 through 2011. Coordinated the delivery of HIV counselling and testing services at national model sites in Ethiopia .Piloted the first home based HIV testing in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa in 2007-2008.Led project design and monitoring for Sweden funded GENDER and SRHR projects in southern Africa. Experience in developing M and E tools for RH, training curriculum, job aids, setting standards of care and using criterion-based audit for assessing quality of care. Extensive experience in managing collaborative programmes with bilateral donors, UN organisations, Ministries of Health, academic institutions and international NGOs. Member of regional and national technical working groups/task forces on HIV, SRHR and CSE (Comprehensive Sexuality Education) quality approach and standards of care in southern Africa. Certified in nutrition programming expert by UNICEF where I led and supported the establishment of Therapeutic Feeding Centres in draught stricken areas in Ethiopia (Illubabor zone Oromia).Experience in health services management and district level micro planning and health profiling (worked as Family Planning and medical department unit head in Chiro hospital and medical director in Busa Health Centre in my early career history).
Currently managing multi-country /regional Adolescent Health projects in six southern Africa countries, which seeks to provide innovative solutions in curbing HIV infections in the adolescents and youth, reduce early marriage and unwanted pregnancy, increasing access to contraceptive use and providing an enabling environment quality youth friendly services. Succeeded in multi country funding proposal development and securing multi-million donor funds from Sweden and Switzerland governments.
Education:
Masters and Degree in Public Health Sciences.
