Alois S. Baleni is a Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Award Visiting Scholar at The University of Winnipeg jointly hosted by Global College and the Faculty of Education. He also holds a PhD research fellowship with Society, Work & Politics Institute (SWOP) and African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS) at Wits University, South Africa. Baleni was recently hosted by the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMiR) Research Group in Oldenburg University, Germany on a DAAD mobility

Professional Experience:

I have worked in development and Non-Governmental Organisation sector for 10 years. I got involved in capacity development and training activities. I also worked hands on in health and well-being initiatives in the process I explored human rights and advocacy work for marginalized groupings. My assignments and responsibilities included holding various positions from a District Training Officer, Field Researcher, Health and Welfare Manager, Project Manager and Senior Project Manager. My professional work included working with International and local Development Agencies in local, national Southern Africa region. At some point, I then shifted to higher education where I worked in Administration for almost 6 years and later becoming a full time PhD scholar from 2015 to date. As such, I am currently on a dual site one year's research fellowship between the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and the University of Winnipeg in Canada.
