Professional Experience:
For over seventeen years I have had the honor of working for a variety of public health organizations. I have had the unique experience of either serving in, or closely collaborating with, almost every department of a nonprofit organization. These experiences prepared me well for leadership and supervisory roles, and eventually for social entrepreneurship. In fall of 2013 I co-founded Firefly Yoga International, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which uses yoga as a complementary evidence-based public health intervention for survivors of trauma. As Co-Executive Directors, we intentionally cultivated an organizational culture rooted in diversity and inclusion, mindful leadership, promoting individual and team wellness, self-care, and work-life balance. In addition to program development and management, my managerial responsibilities with Firefly have been vast. For the life of the organization I have served as the chief financial officer, developed all of the procedures and protocols currently in place, and have created systems for continuous quality improvement. My experience as organizational leader has required that I wear many hats on a day-to-day basis, remain flexible in an ever-changing environment, and communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external audiences. Social entrepreneurship demands an unparalleled work ethic and a deep level of self-determination and motivation.

Education:
In January 2013, I completed the Master of Public Health program at Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) with concentration in health program management. While working towards my degree, I joined the BUSPH Department of Health Policy and Management as the Project Director of a National Institutes of Health-funded clinical trial for HIV positive substance users at Boston Medical Center. As Project Director I was responsible for administrative, financial, and protocol management for the study.

In 2007, I earned a Master of Arts in Gender and Peace Building (GPB) from the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica. The GPB program focused on approaching human rights with a gender lens by drawing on the role gender plays in violence, peace negotiations, peace building, and peacekeeping across the world. For my academic thesis I conducted independent qualitative research to examine the issue of sex trafficking of women and girls in Costa Rica. I honed my abilities to identify and engage key players in the field (both governmental and nongovernmental) while conducting in depth field research.

As an undergraduate I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, with minors in Women's Studies and Foreign Studies, and took advantage of study abroad opportunities in England and Ecuador. Living in England, allowed me the opportunity to embark on academic and personal adventures throughout Europe and North Africa. In Ecuador, I administered an ethnographic field study on the restorative justice system practiced by a local indigenous community. Living, traveling, and studying in over twenty-five countries enabled me to develop effective communication skills with true cultural competency.
