Professional Experience: |
I have 3 years of experience working with the CDC. At my current position in the CDC South Africa office, I work in the PEPFAR division of HIV/AIDS and TB. My responsibilities cover a wide-range of expertise areas, such as program management; research; data analysis and evaluation; systems strengthening; liaising with the Ministry of Health and local partners; conducting country-wide site visits; and coordinating HIV drug resistance surveillance projects. Being able to work directly with the South African government to enhance their HIV/AIDS prevention and treatments programs, has thus far been a very rewarding opportunity.
During my work at the CDC Headquarters in Atlanta, I was part of the Global Disease Detection Branch and focused more on the management of various infectious disease programs. I was directly involved with the international Ebola Response, which required diligent coordination skills and time management. I coordinated a Hepatitis C surveillance study in the South Caucuses, where we assisted with a national door-to-door household survey to detect for Hep C and other relevant diseases. I used my program and budget coordination skills to put together an Anthrax conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as well as manage a $1 million Anthrax budget with DTRA. Being involved in these various projects, I was able to thoroughly understand the importance of working with various organizations, governments and non-profits, in order to battle global diseases.
