The Humanitarian Forum, London: Internship, December 2011 - January 2013
Key Responsibilities:
•Fundraising; Research potential funding sources, generating enquiries for potential Trusts and Foundations. Creating donor mapping for the External Relations Manager and the Director, aimed at identifying key founders to submit applications, concepts and proposals to guarantee secure funding.
•Approaching potential donors with introductions, providing them with briefing information regarding the THF goals and the suitability of the organisation’s goals with the donor’s own objectives.
•Drafting small-case funding propositions (an example: UNAOC & BMW “the intercultural innovation award”) and documenting concept notes for funding bids. Producing correspondence for donors, through explicative letters regarding the achievements and future plans of the organisation.
•Research: Thoroughly investigating The Civil Society Organisation’s sector strengthening in Middle East and North Africa region in the light of the Arab Spring; Analysing the role of the local Civil Society Organisation’s in the Disaster Risk Reduction.
•Impact of Counter Terrorism Policy in the Humanitarian Aid, with a particular attention to Somalia.
•Situation descriptions regarding targeted countries aimed at providing the contextual basics for funding concept notes.
•Reporting: Collecting the contributions of staff, extrapolating the fundamental information and producing the detailed reports, delineating monthly achievements, challenges and future plans of the secretariats and the branches abroad. Managing and updating the contacts database using Microsoft Access.
•Conferences: Tasks ranged from staging events, strategizing initial concept idea, implementation and co-ordination of budgets, travel and infrastructure to managing timetables ensuring that key objectives were met on time. Attending charitable events/conferences and managing relationships with partners such as other key competitor charities, local business suppliers and key supporters.
•Identifying new marketing opportunities for the organisation in order to plan future activities, contributing to the on-going charity development in line with market needs and trends.
