PROFESSIONAL OVERVIEW AND REASONS FOR APPLYING FOR ROLE
I am self-employed as a business consultant with Public Sector Solutions Management Consultants, a consultancy firm I set up in 2010 after 21yrs service in the public sector. I have expertise in finance, capacity building and international development and provide training and consultancy services to organisations, mainly in Africa. I have trained delegates from over 40 public and private sector organisations in Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Botswana. I facilitate training on leadership and management, public sector modernisation, financial management in the public sector, budgeting, performance management, project management, and fraud and corruption. The thrust of my training in the public sector is twofold: to strengthen public institutions by improving accountability and corporate governance; and to improve the delivery of public services through better planning and performance.
I also provide consultancy services in these areas: Public Private Partnership (PPP); business case development; performance management; and financial management. The business case I wrote for the re-building of the Nigerian railways enabled the Nigerian Railway Corporation to obtain funding for the project from China Exim Bank. I support Ghana’s Ministry of Finance PPP team in building capacity. I worked with the team to produce an outline business case on improving Ghana’s mass bus transit system.

Before setting up as a consultant I was chief accountant for Transport for London (TfL) for six years, with responsibility for risk management, business planning and corporate governance. I was a member of TfL’s senior management team and had responsibility for project managing the delivery of Surface Transport’s annual budget (c£2.5bn) and business plan (c£26bn gross), covering some 34 disparate activities. I received public commendation from the then Commissioner for Transport, Bob Kiley, for my role in producing London’s 5-year investment programme.

Before joining TfL, I was in local government for 15 years. My last role was head of budget/ business planning at Slough Borough Council where I led the budget and council tax setting process.

I have worked with politicians and representatives of the community in all my roles in the public sector, addressing development needs of the people. I am able to build strong collaborative working relationships with stakeholders within and outside the organisation. I am able to work effectively as part of a team and have formed and chaired various working groups within the organisation and with stakeholder groups outside the organisation. I am a good communicator and have many years experience of making presentations to large audiences.

I am passionate about the development of Africa and developing countries and the lifting of people out of pover
