Nilesh Mistry is an experienced Private Sector Development Consultant with over 20 years' experience in both commerce and International Development Consultancy in Africa, Central Asia, Middle East & Eastern Europe with sectoral experience across a range of sectors- from oil & gas, manufacturing, mining, tourism through to high-technology industries such as IT, healthcare and Earth Observation.

Nilesh has a deep and wide understanding of the issues facing business competitiveness (and resulting job creation) amongst SMEs and has delivered capacity building programmes for SME support agencies in Bulgaria, Malta, South Africa, Iraq, Qatar and Slovakia, as well as delivering business support services directly to SMEs

Nilesh has held Team Leader and Technical Expert positions on supplier development and Value Chain improvement in Czech Republic (CzechInvest), Serbia (SSDP1), trade promotion in Iraq(UK Trade & Investment) and strengthening of agricultural supply/value chains in Afghanistan (CARD-F); implementing transparency initiatives into the Mining Sector in Afghanistan as well as providing TA support to the EU’s Afghanistan State Building & Resilience Budget Support programme 2018-2020.

Nilesh has conducted project evaluations for DFID and the UN and has a deep understanding of the requirements of monitoring and evaluation for EU, UN and DFID with a working knowledge of OECD/DAC requirements, Value for Money assessments, HM Treasury Green Book and Business Case development.

As an experienced and entrepreneurial Business Development professional and Managing Consultant, Nilesh has extensive experience of developing new business and revenue generation through the successful management of the entire bidding lifecycle- from opportunity identification through to service delivery of funded projects.

Under the Innovate UK/ERDF ‘Innovation 2 Succeed’, Horizon 2020 and Eurostars and other regional funding mechanisms, Nilesh has written applications on behalf of Innovation clients as well as acted as member of grant evaluation panels for a diverse range of funding streams in both the Innovation and Aid/Development sectors in the UK and overseas. With over 18 years’ experience in writing, managing and the service delivery of grants and bids won from EEDA, BIS, UKSA IPP, TSB/Innovate UK, H2020, DFID, EU, UN and USAID amongst others.

As a result of this experience, I have a deep understanding of funding rules and have a valuable network of contacts at various research centres, Catapults and EEN amongst others, as well as a network of service providers in the UK & Overseas that has allowed me to build bidding consortia with Research Centres and private companies.

My sector knowledge covers Advanced Manufacturing & Materials; Remote Sensing; Agriculture and Biotechnology. My management experience ranges from managing bid teams, service delivery teams and I am comfortable working at the C-Suite level through to mentoring and training staff.
