Professional Experience:
In my current post, I advise the Global Commission on Drug Policy, which was established in 2010 by political leaders to contribute to the world debate on drug policy. The Global Commission aims at bringing to the international level an informed, science-based discussion about humane and effective ways to reduce the harm caused by drugs to people and societies. The Commission currently comprises 23 members, including eight former Heads of States.
- Responsible for the implementation of advocacy efforts
- Research and analysis of drug policies and trends at global, regional and national levels for the Chair, the Steering Committee and the members of the Global Commission; draft policy notes and briefings for their interventions
- Maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of external stakeholders, including government officials, parliamentarians, civil society representatives, affected communities and think tanks
- Coordinate the research, analysis and drafting of the Global Commission on Drug Policy’ flagship reports
At my previous post at the Kofi Annan Foundation, I was the lead policy officer in the areas of drug policy and truth, justice and reconciliation, providing expert input to Kofi Annan, the Executive Director, and high-level partners.
- advice and technical expertise for policy research and drafting of papers, speeches and op-eds
- fundraising, including drafting of funding proposals, donor engagement, project management and monitoring, donor reporting
- development of concept notes and expansion into project plans
In charge of day-to-day management of two policy initiatives (West Africa Commission on Drugs (WACD) and the work around truth, justice and reconciliation):
- content development, including participation in the review process of papers and reports; overseeing production processes, including copy editing, translations, layout and printing of background papers and final reports
- partner and stakeholder relations, including at the level of former heads of state
- organization (content and logistics) of country visits, meetings and events in Geneva, Africa and Latin America, for example the public launch of the WACD report “Not Just in Transit”, the international conference on truth commissions in Colombia, CND side events and a seminar with the African Union in Addis Ababa
The WACD has become an important voice credited with initiating serious discussion on policy change in the region whereas the report on truth commissions and peace processes has seen practical application, e.g. it was used by negotiating parties in Colombia as input for the design of the forthcoming truth commission there.
