Area of Expertise:
  • Director, CEO, COP, President
  • Disaster, Aid, Emergencies, Relief
Professional Experience:
I have been Country Program Manager for the USAID/Sierra Leone office for 1.5 years. Duties include, but not limited to, providing support for program design, program management, procurement, budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation, and reporting for the Sierra Leone portfolio; ensuring that planned and implemented activities are in alignment and consistent with USAID’s policies and strategy for Sierra Leone; and managing and supervising USAID Foreign Service National (FSN) staff in Freetown, including conducting performance evaluations and developing FSN work objectives and performance measures

Just prior to working with USAID, I was a full-time economics instructor at Gaston College in North Carolina for five (5) years. The two primary subjects that I taught were microeconomics and macroeconomics. The macroeconomics course put emphasis on major schools of economic thought; aggregate supply and; economic measures, fluctuation, and growth; money and banking; stabilization techniques; and international trade and development. The microeconomics course put emphasis on economic analysis of individual, business, and industry choices in the market economy and role of government. Instruction for both courses included use of online technology.

My professional experience prior to teaching at the college level has been international development, including approximately ten (10) years with Africare, a U.S.-based non-government organization, as Country Representative for Sierra Leone and Eritrea, respectively. My responsibilities included, but were not limited to, oversight in the following areas: representation; project management; identification and mobilization of funding for new projects; financial management; and personnel and administrative management. I was successful in mobilizing and/or managing existing resources for relief and development assistance projects in both Sierra Leone and Eritrea. These resources amounted to more than $10 million in material and financial aid.

Other overseas experience includes serving in West Africa as a socio-economist in The Gambia. As a socio-economist, I worked for 1.75 years with Virginia State University who was a sub-contractor on a USAID-funded project in the country. In the latter capacity, I help lead the design, collection, and analysis of data of farmers in all administrative divisions to get a socioeconomic profile of farmers in various parts of the country, and I conducted an economic analysis of tobaski-ram fattening in the country; findings of each of these research activities were presented by me at the Annual National Research Conference in The Gambia.

Education:
Most recent education includes completion of Masters in Christian Leadership (MACL) in September 2015 from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in North Carolina. Prior education includes PhD (Agriculture Economics) from the University of Kentucky, Masters (Economics) from Virginia State University, and BS (Mathematics) from Winston Salem State University.
Affiliations and Achievements:
As Country Representative for Eritrea, I received an exceptional performance evaluation for 3 out of 5 years. I was acknowledged by my supervisor as not being a pre-madonna and someone willing to roll up his sleeves to get the job done. Lastly, I developed and/or maintained excellent working relationship with Eritrean government officials – no small achievement given the premium that the Government of Eritrea puts on self-reliance and less of a premium on receiving donor support.
