Professional Experience:
• 25 years experience as social and cultural academic researcher in Canada, USA, Latin America and the Caribbean (Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Cuba) as well as the Oceania (South Pacific) (PNG, Fiji, Vanuatu and Kiribati). Taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in Climate Change, Integrated Resource Management, Advanced Qualitative Methods, EIA/SEA, DRR (Disaster Risk Management),Climate Change Impacts, Vulnerability and Adaptation in the Pacific.
• 10 + years working in social and cultural anthropology as well as integrated rural development projects in strategic planning, implementation of bilateral and multilateral programs and projects.
• Supervision of three Masters (Climate Change) Students, five MA/MS students and one PhD student in past 5 years.
• 10+ years in capacity and collation building of Aboriginal communities and developing and monitoring all phases of project management, analysis, program design, implementation, and ex-ante and ex-post monitoring and evaluation.
• 15+ years of extension and outreach experience with government, non-government, Aboriginal groups and industry stakeholders using adaptive management and collaborative learning approaches to project/program management. This included facilitating field-training and extension services (eg: farmer-to-farmer programs) and implementing cost-effective dissemination strategies.
• 5+ years working intimately with ‘Moodle’, ‘Illuminate’ and other DFL (distance for flexible learning) modes of delivery and setting up modules and on-line courses, exams, forums and discussion-groups on-line.
• High skilled (over 15 years) of administration and financial management of large-scale international projects and programs, particularly with EU, AusAID, CIDA, CUSO, CECI, and liaising with governmental counterparts and non-governmental donors and funding agencies. Familiarity with EU, CIDA, USAID, AusAID, ACIAR requirements for procurement of services, including regular progresses for RFP preparation and financial reporting.
• On-farm gender, rural development and farming systems research. Specialist in social forestry and community forestry participatory approaches (Participatory Action Research, Participatory Rural Appraisal-PRA, and Rapid Appraisal of Agriculture Knowledge Systems-RAAKS) and other rural development initiatives.
• Providing highly-motivated communications support for local and regional staff. Publishing technical documents and training manuals for practical and education purposes.
• Facilitating public participation regarding socio-economic/human environmental management issues with local farmers and indigenous groups and preserving traditional indigenous knowledge and intellectual property rights.
