Professional Experience: |
Mr Shah is currently working with UNICEF as a Head of WASH Section for Central South Zone programme. His role is in planning, designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH projects in the Central South Zone of the Somalia. The programme is spread across eleven regions, over $ 15 Million budget, three field offices, 8 technical staff and 25 partners. He is representing UNICEF in all sector coordination meetings with the government, donors and other key stakeholders. As a Cluster Lead Agency also responsible for WASH cluster and involved in assisting the government of Somalia in the development of the national sector strategies.
Prior to UNICEF he worked with Oxfam GB as WASH Coordinator for Asia. His role was more on capacity building, innovation, supporting humanitarian responses and resource mobilization for South and East Asia. He also provided strategic direction to the regional country programmes (on WASH emergency and development programmes). Mr Shah supported emergency responses in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia.
In his previous roles he worked with Concern Worldwide, Mercy Corps, RTI and NRSP. Mr Shah worked in Afghanistan, South Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Indonesia and Bangladesh. I also provided distance support to countries such as, India, Uganda, Kenya, Vietnam and China on capacity building initiatives and emergency response strategies.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
• Emergency and/or IDPs/Refugees Programmes Implementation: Designed and implemented Humanitarian programmes for Somalia IDP’s & Famine Response (2012-13), Philippine Storm Response 2011-12, Pakistan Floods Response (2010-11), Afghanistan Drought Response (2011),Southern Sudan IDP Response (2009), Pakistan Earthquake Response (2008), Pakistan IDP’s Response (2008), Sri Lanka Tsunami Emergency Response (2005), Pakistan Earthquake Emergency Response (2005) and Afghanistan Refugees Emergency Response (2001-02). • Development of the Sector Polices and Strategies: Provided assistance to the government in the development of WASH strategies (Pakistan, Sudan and Afghanistan); provided assistance on the formulation of country strategies (South Asia and Sudan) for Oxfam, Concern Worldwide and Mercy Corps. Also taken up lead role on formulation of the WASH cluster strategies with UNICEF and Oxfam GB. • Monitoring Tools: Formulated Water and Sanitation monitoring tools for Oxfam GB southern Sudan and Concern Worldwide Pakistan programmes. • Technical Manuals: Prepared technical manuals on the designing of community based rural and urban water supply schemes (such as drilled boreholes, rivers/ponds, springs, dug wells, rainwater harvesting and gravity flow schemes); sanitation schemes and hygiene promotion. Mr. Shah have a Master degree in Rural Development with major in Environmental Sciences, and a professional Graduation in Civil Engineering with major in Public Health Engineering. His qualification covers all aspects of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for programme designing, management and monitoring. Mr Shah also completed certified training in WASH Cluster Coordination, Inter-Agency Contingency Planning and Sphere Standards.
