Professional Experience:
Research and presentation skills competencies
I am a researcher at doctorate level. My PhD thesis focussed on maintenance of rural drinking water projects in Malawi, Central Africa. Due to a wide experience in Malawi projects I have developed interest and experience in developing research questions for conducting quantitative as well as qualitative research based on complex grey areas encountered. I have particular interest in rural sub-Saharan drinking water hence the PhD thesis was entitled, ‘Project Operations and Maintenance: The Case of Rural Drinking Water Projects in Malawi’. This research has developed a new model for hand-pump operations and maintenance to address the gap of non-functional hand-pumps. My refereed paper entitled, ‘Micro Insurance: A Proposed Practical Solution to Mitigate Hand-pump Maintenance Challenges in Malawi’ has been accepted for publication by the Water Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) and I will also be presenting it on the 38th WEDC International Conference, in June, 2015. WEDC, in Europe has been charged to develop, advocate knowledge and capacity in water and sanitation for developing countries. Another article entitled, ‘Tailoring the Concept of Risk Framework in Rural Hand-Pump Projects’ has just been submitted for publication of which I am the main author. There are more papers for publication in the pipeline.

Programme support and fund-raising competencies
I have over ten years of sub Saharan Africa (Malawi) experience of managing rural projects at primary, tertiary as well as managerial levels. As a Project Manager I was responsible for providing technical support to USAID funded NGOs and mission hospitals in Malawi. Our organisation was an NGO affiliated to Save the Children (US) which channelled USAID grants to NGOs and provided funding and technical support to sub-guarantees spearheading sexual reproductive health in the country. My role was to provide reproductive health technical support to sexual and reproductive health NGOs funded by USAID. I worked hand in hand with senior ministry of health staff on policy issues and NGO leaders in RH projects. My role involved active project communication with USAID sub-guarantees. My competence to deal with donors and policy makers would be helpful in an international organisation as I am also familiar with USAID grant operations and ensured value for money as I appraised proposals based on USAID tool, regularly audited the quality of services and determined cost-benefit analysis and writing for bids. During this quarter, I have also submitted applications so far for grants, to DFID and Melinda Gates for prospective rural drinking water projects in Malawi. Each grant application is worthy $2.5 million or more, apparently awaits feedback. Samples of my grant application for the proposed projects can be submitted to you upon request. I have knowledge and capacity for proposal development hence have potential to co
