More than 12 years of work as a Public Health Officer and a General Practitioner. Love both clinical and administrative work, including field research. Have vast experience as medical doctor providing integrated health care for underserved communities and at emergency room care at both Primary Health Care (Clinica Jimenez Nunez) settings as well as Tertiary Care (Hospital San Juan de Dios). From the year 2004 and until 2009 I worked for the Costa Rican National Cancer Institute (CRNCI), in which I was head of special projects, both at a national and international level. Internationally, I was local project leader for the projects between CRNCI and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Locally I coordinated the creation of the first National Cancer Control Plan in Costa Rica. I also served as Acting Director for the CRNCI. When the CRNCI merged with the local National Social Security, I was the last Director and oversaw the transfer of more than $60 million, staff and other from one institution to the other. Have been a consultant for International NGO's in various topics, mainly related to medical Informatics, HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, and vaccination programs. Have done qualitative research locally and internationally. With experience in project evaluation as well; of both applications and project-program implementation. I believe that education is essential for global improvement and development, so I have been a teacher of Public Health courses at various Universities and levels for more than 10 years. Have been an invited lecturer for different courses at the University of Rochester and other local institutions in Costa Rica. I worked for three years as part of the Hospital Epidemiology team at San Juan de Dios Hospital, the largest Public Hospital in San Jose Costa Rica (more that 700 beds). Was in charge of coordinating epidemiological issues related to H1N1 Pandemic Influenza and was part of the team who brought down a Clostridium difficile Hospital Epidemy in the year of 2009-2010. Currently I'm Chief of 10 Primary Health Posts, at Goicoechea 2 Health Care Area for a population of over 250.000 people. In total 12 physicians and their teams total more than 40 health care workers. As chief, I'm in charge of the administrative duties related to the coordination of the physicians and their duties. I also provide medical care to the population when needed. At the same time I support interdisciplinary and interinstitutional activities locally. I'm on the board of the Foundation Pro Areas de Salud de Goicoechea. At a National level, I'm part of the National Committee for the creation of National Guidelines for the better care of Cancer Patients and Cancer Control.

Medical doctor graduated from the University of Costa Rica, with internships done at University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital and Ospedale Sant' Orsola, Universita degli Studi, Bologna, Italy. Completed a post-doctoral Primary Health Care Administration Diplona at the University of Costa Rica and a year later (2002) the Masters in Public Health at the University of Rochester, NY, USA.
