Professional Experience:
For the past three years, I have been heavily involved in the international development effectiveness field as Global Coordinator of the Open Forum for CSO Development Effectiveness. In this ground-breaking position, I independently managed the global civil society process of developing a sector-wide framework for CSO development effectiveness, which has been acknowledged and enshrined in a major global, multi-lateral political document (the Busan Partnership). To build this sectoral consensus, we worked with thousands of CSOs in multi-stakeholder dialogue consultations in over 70 countries worldwide. This rewarding, intense and politically important experience gave me a solid content background in many effectiveness issues such as transparency, ownership and mutual accountability. It also allowed me to cultivate various coordination skills such as effective communication and outreach, report writing, monitoring and evaluation, facilitation and representation, as well as financial and human resource management.

Outside of this most recent and relevant work experience with the Open Forum, I have also had the opportunity to work in many different global and professional contexts, from grassroots to UN agencies. For example, as co-manager with CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation, based out of Johannesburg, South Africa, I led the Civil Society Index (CSI) programme, which is a participatory needs assessment and action planning tool for civil society around the world. This position required ongoing and constant coordination with over 50 country partners around the world. In this position, in addition to the project management experience, I gained extensive skills in facilitation, communications, monitoring and evaluation, research and editing, as well as working with various stakeholders including donors, governments and UN agencies.

To compliment these global experiences, I also have an intimate understanding of the urgent importance of our collective work to improve our impact as development actors, and the effect these actions can have on the lives of the most poor and marginalized around the world. As a Community Organizer/ Facilitator with EDUCA- CUSO in Huancavelica, Peru, I helped establish a local conflict resolution center, and spearheaded capacity-building initiatives to respond to the challenges of the local community whose context includes a long recent history of political violence and human rights violations. This position required a great deal of cultural and historical sensitivity, and was formative in my understanding of development impact, conclift and fragility issues, diplomacy, and the realities of working in challenging social and political contexts.

In addition, my position as a Junior Professional Consultant at the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (UN-IAEA) in Vienna, Austria was instrumental in my gaining a strong understanding of the skills needed to successfully navigate international relation
