Professional Experience: |
In addition to my PhD and MSc research I have worked as a research assistant on marine turtle conservation projects in Kenya and Northern Cyprus. I have also advised local NGOs in Kenya on integrating social and ecological research methods.
I also have a range of teaching experiences at university level.

The main aim of my doctoral thesis was to contribute to the on-going debate over whether and how conservation and poverty alleviation goals can be achieved together. As such, my research was conducted on relationships between the tourism industry, conservation and development around a marine protected area on the coast of Kenya.
University College London MSc Anthropology and Ecology of Development
October 2005 – September 2006
My MSc dissertation investigated the impact of the 2004 tsunami on fishing communities in South East Asia. The research involved interviewing local villagers with the help of a translator. Core courses included: Human Ecology; Resource Use and Impacts, Population and Development and Social Science Research Methods.
