Professional Experience:
I'm an accomplished Project Manager with over 30 years of invaluable experience in the water sector.

I have a thorough knowledge of water supply and sanitation and have been particularly involved in designing water supply schemes, which are affordable to developing communities throughout Southern Africa, as well as urban water supply schemes in developed areas. I am therefore fully appreciative of the economics of the water supply industry. The development of the design manual for rural water supply systems in Swaziland demonstrates my position in this field. I'm also an expert in the highly specialised and focused field of water conservation and demand management (Encompassing Non Revenue Water Management) and was a member of the technical working group responsible for the development of the SABS 0306 Code of Practice, which deals with the management of potable water in distribution. My wide-ranging experience also covers the fields of pipeline network analysis and pipe materials specifications. I welcome challenges such as coordination and liaison with all role players, interaction and skills transfer that are encountered during the planning, design and construction of water and sewerage schemes.

I have been involved in all phases of the project cycle, from the project inception, planning and feasibility study phase through to the detailed design, and construction supervision phases. I have also been project manager on a wide variety of projects including multi-disciplinary projects where I have been responsible for the planning and inception, financial management, quality control, client liaison, the compilation of tender documentation and the construction management phase. Throughout each project the compilation of project work plans and the adherence to them and the required project milestones, has been an ongoing activity.

I have has extensive experience in Africa and has worked on projects in Uganda, Ghana, Angola, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, South Africa and Namibia. I have also acted as technical advisor on the DANIDA-funded Eastern Centres Water and Sanitation Project in Uganda, where I provided support on review of consultants’ designs, the compilation of contracts for the appointment of private operators and related contract negotiations in the small towns of the project. I was also responsible for the evaluation of contractor performance on a regular basis throughout the project. I was also appointed deputy team leader for the Long Term Strategy for Investment Planning Implementation and Operation and Maintenance of water supply in small towns in Uganda for the Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment.

During my employment with the Namibian Department of Water Affairs, I gained experience in a variety of disciplines, including design, construction monitoring and operation and maintenance supervision.

I have more recently taken on the role of a Technical Advisor.
