Survivors Fund (SURF) is a UK charity, and registered international nongovernmental organization in Rwanda, which is the principal international organization representing and supporting survivors of the genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.
• Key contact for survivors Fund in Rwanda • Managing sponsorship and livelihood programs • Directing SURF Rwanda’s operational activity and ensure the smooth-running of the operation • Acting as SURF main administrative and external contact point • Representing SURF at administrative meetings and other as designated events • Ensuring that SURF Rwanda is professionally managed and effective • Coordinating staff matters, overseeing human resources and ensure the health and safety of staff • Contribute to the financial management of SURF in support of SURF Accountant • Provide the lead in SURF Rwanda communications and fundraising activities • Lead on the Foundation Rwanda programme and Community Counselling initiative for children born of genocide rape
Program Manager, Feb 2007 to Sept 2015
Survivors Fund (SURF) and Foundation Rwanda • Coordinated an educational program for over 850 children born as a result of rape committed during the genocide in Rwanda, including monitoring and evaluation. • Coordinated a groundbreaking community counselling program in which 420 mothers with children born out rape are receiving psychological support. • Assisted individuals and groups (genocide survivors, widows, widowers, and orphans, rape victims) to develop their ideas for voluntary action and provide relevant support services. • Worked closely with local partners, offering results-oriented mentoring and capacity building support of individuals and community groups. • Undertook community consultation and engagement to identify needs of local NGOs in order to produce capacity building and community development work plans. • Managed a team of 3 staff members whose performance has helped the program to grow and come up with innovative solutions such as the community counselling initiative. • Managed an annual budget of up to $250,000, and all monitoring and reporting for Foundation Rwanda, a US-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization • Developed an array of livelihoods projects including new initiatives to introduce solar lights, solar cookers, clean stove cookers and donkeys • Represented Survivors Fund and Foundation Rwanda to donors and partners visiting Rwanda, as well as on international visits to countries including the UK and India • Awarded a full scholarship to the University of Westminster to study for an MA in International Development Management on a yearlong sabbatical.
