COMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANCY


INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MIGRATION (IOM), Yangon, Myanmar (March-April 2013)

For the period of this consultancy, I was responsible for conducting a full content-edit of the IOM’s 'Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Malaria for Migrants in Myanmar'. This involved:

• checking the guidelines for general sense and appropriateness for the intended audience.

• querying facts and statistics, based on information in the document and my own knowledge of Myanmar culture, language and geography.

• rewriting large sections in order to make the information more clearer and more accessible to the reader.

• Edit and review of Humanitarian and Risk Management Assessment, Rakhine State Emergency, Myanmar


UNICEF, Yangon, Myanmar (January 2012)

For the period of this consultancy, my outputs included:

• Proposal development for revision of the UNICEF National Newsletter in order to maximise impact and messaging

• Content editing, layout revision and design in collaboration with the Head of Communications. Working within established budgets and recruitment limitations we portrayed UNICEF projects with greater influence, across Myanmar and globally

• Editing of presentations incorporating the work of professional and talented photographers in the development of positive messages of UNICEF programmes


PROJECT MANAGEMENT


Emergency response – cyclone Nargis, Yangon, Myanmar May 2008

In the aftermath of cyclone Nargis, as a team we developed and implemented a successful recovery and reconstruction project involving volunteers from the British Council student body.

• Development of needs analysis tools and training

• Supervised the conduct of broad assessment focusing on damage to schools, orphanages and monasteries situated in remote cyclone affected villages in rural Myanmar

• Data compilation and analysis from assessment of three hundred establishments assessed over three month period

• Remote supervision of up to 25 national volunteers

• Provision of recommended actions and suggestion for prioritisation of establishments

• Proposal development and communication responsibilities for fundraising of US$30K+ for initial concept (DfID)
