Recent: policy research and project evaluation projects for the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, Engineering Council of South Africa, National Business Initiative and World Bank (Southern Africa).
Previous: Thirteen years as a Director of the National Business Initiative in South Africa. Previously a senior researcher and acting director of the Education Policy Unit, University of the Western Cape. Established the Colleges Collaboration Fund, a 5 year, R80m private-sector funded initiative to support college development in South Africa; conceptualised and set up the Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition, under the leadership of the Deputy President. Played a key role in drafting of Green and White Papers on Further Education and Training. Council member and Chair of the Vaal Triangle Technikon. Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow.

I have BA(Hons) degrees in Political Studies and English Literature, and extensive policy and education research experience. Accepted as a Doctoral candidate at the University of the Western Cape, on basis of research and publications record, but withdrew on appointment as Director at the National Business Initiative, because of pressure of work. Completed the Business and Environment Programme at the University of Cambridge (UK) and was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at the Center for the Study of Higher Education at The Pennsylvania State University and a Visiting Professor at New York University in 1993-4.
