Professional Experience:
Dr. Ashok Kumar Agarwal is a Technical Specialist with more than 19 years of experience with different vulnerable populations in India. He is currently working with FHI 360 in India as Project Director (PD) under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/FHI 360 DAKSH and SNEH projects; he identifies, coordinates and provides high-level technical assistance to National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), State AIDS Control Societies (SACS), Indian Nursing Council (INC), WHO, UNAIDS, key Government Ministries and CDC prime partners. In addition to the DAKSH and SNEH responsibilities, Dr. Ashok also has been the FHI 360 India Country Office (CO) point person on staff capacity building, Protection of Human Subjects Committee (PHSC), Quality Improvement (QI), HIV/AIDS Palliative Care, and Abstract Review for International AIDS Conferences. He is also getting increasingly involved in FHI 360 Global activities. Dr Ashok has been instrumental in securing resources for the CO and working on newer areas of work; he has been successful in generating new grants; recently he guided conduct of an operations research workshop in North-East (NE) India; and development of protocol to study the challenges of implementing Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) services in NE India. His areas of specialization include: Research and Monitoring and Evaluation (including cohort study, operational research, research ethics, management information system (MIS), program evaluation, logic model and data quality assurance); quality assurance and quality improvement; designing intervention programs for prevention and care, OVC programming (including Life Skills Education, LSE), management of grants, strategic planning, designing and conducting training and presentation and communication skills. Dr. Ashok Agarwal also possesses strong management skills. He has supervised teams ranging from one to 30 professionals. Dr Ashok is a good strategic planner; he has been in the senior management team of different organizations. He is fluent in English and Hindi and has earned his Masters in Community Medicine from Aligarh Muslim University. Dr Agarwal is a member of Indian Medical Association, Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine and Indian Association of Public Health. In 2004, Dr Ashok was selected member of the Technical Review Panel of Global Fund for HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria. He has authored more than 30 papers and abstracts in national and international publications. Dr Ashok significantly contributed in the development of a number of FHI 360 India Country Office publications like “Life Skills Education Toolkit”, Child Counseling Protocol”, “Child Detoxification and Rehabilitation Protocol”, “Standard Operating Procedures and Checklists for HIV prevention and care, support and treatment projects with children”, “National operational guidelines on services for Children Affected By HIV/AIDS (CABA)”, “National Data Quality, Analysis and Use G
