Professional Experience:
I am currently a Desk Officer for Projects Abroad Ghana. I am in charge of the volunteers from the moment they apply to do a project in Ghana until they land, answering all their questions and concerns. I also give them all the information they need in order to prepare for their trip.

Earlier this year, I volunteered as a Programme Assistant with the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) in New York, where my main goal was to assist the director in gaining signatures from various African Heads of State to add to a thank you letter for ALMA’s outgoing founding chair President Kikwete of Tanzania. I successfully accomplished this in time for the letter to be presented at the African Union summit.

Prior to ALMA, I was posted in Takoradi, Ghana as the Africa Programme Officer for PCI-Media Impact and SustainaMetrix. Here, I worked on developing an Entertainment-Education (EE) radio drama series as part of a wider USAID funded project. The main task was to ensure that the EE radio drama was designed, produced, marketed, broadcast and monitored. This was a challenge that I relished and managed to have the first episode air on October 4th 2011; the only programme started and aired last year. At every stage of the process I ensured the capacity of the staff, artists and producers was built. It was such a success that the initial approved 24 were increased to a total of 52 episodes.

As part of my job with Media Impact I had to ensure that other people on the communications team were aware of the assignments set out in the yearly work plan and keeping everyone on schedule and in budget. I coordinated weekly team meetings where I placed a lot of emphasis on the importance of social networking. I created and maintained two Facebook pages for the project and was able to train five Ghanaian staff to use them as well as get the rest of the project on board. I was also in charge of making travel arrangements for our US teams for their quarterly visits to the project.

As for my personal characteristics, I have a strong work ethic and consider communication key. I am a firm believer that there is always a solution and I support learning by doing. Being a team player, I am always willing to listen, but I am also a self-starter and a good team motivator. I am also very resourceful and highly organised with excellent time management skills.

I also have international experience. I have lived in ten countries on four continents making my ability to work with a diverse group of people not only a norm, but also a pleasure and something I seek and look forward to. Since I have moved around throughout my life I have become accustomed to building relationships quickly and maintaining them for many years, making it part of my social fabric.
